How are blog articles organized?

Blog articles are organized into ten topics, meant to be parallel conversations, as much like a discussion forum as possible within a blog structure. Conversations about specific songs, albums, and artists, and about our lists of songs, albums, and artists, take place elsewhere on the site (see FAQ Comments).

How do I find particular articles?

Several ways. From the poster menu you can browse all blog articles, listed from most recent to earliest, six to a page. The Blog Topics menu finds articles posted under topics and cross-referenced under subtopics. The Archives search finds articles by the month they were posted. SEARCH on the top menu bar finds most everything on the site - including blog articles - that includes the key word(s) you enter. See FAQ General Features for more about SEARCH. "Search for Tags" in the blog sidebar does the same search as the top menu bar, using tags for the key word(s).

How do I start a new conversation or a new topic?

You can use comments and lists to start new conversations; for example, by raising your own question(s) as part of your comment. Or by including a comment or question as part of your list, either in the description or as part of the list itself. You can also start a new thread by commenting on the Open Discussion post in the Then & Now blog topic.

Gator will create new topics or subtopics to the extent that Cats express interest. You can suggest a new topic in the Rock 'n Soul Alley blog topic. I also welcome Cats as guest authors of blog articles or Bits & Pieces items. Please Contact me if that interests you.

What are subtopics for?

Subtopics allow Gator to cross-reference articles and Cats to search more efficiently. As above, Gator can create more topics or subtopics if Cats express enough interest.

How do I comment on Resources articles?

Resources articles live on their own pages, set off from the blog, becase their main purpose is background or reference. They are integrated into the site for discussion purposes through proxy blog articles, so that all comments appear on the Blog page. This involves one extra click, from the "discuss" link in the Resources article to the proxy blog article, before you can comment on it.

Where do Tips & Advice come from?

The Tips & Advice page in Resources has a unique relationship to the Collecting blog topic. Instead of Gator offering Tips & Advice on his own, he will fill that page with the wisdom Cats provide as they discuss various issues important to collectors.

Who can be a Guest Author?

The site is set up for expansion beyond the limits of Gator's interests and expertise. Cats who are interested in writing their own blog or Bits & Pieces article should email Gator using the Contact page to explore possibilities.
