How do I create my own list?

To create your own list you must first be a registered Cat and logged in. Cats make lists with the List Maker tool located in the upper left corner of each List page. Instructions and tips for using the List Maker are provided at List Maker Help.

Both the Timeline and the CD Database can be very helpful in coming up with ideas for lists of songs and albums, respectively. The Timeline is naturally sorted by years but it can also be searched by artists. The CD Database has powerful tools for filtering and sorting albums by genre, artist, and year.

Can I create my own Pantheon?

Yes. We don't have one template for replicating the whole thing at once. However, on the Artist Lists page, you'll find six partial templates, one for each time period. These templates give Cats a head start on creating their own Pantheon, one period at a time.

How can I motivate Cats to comment on my lists?

One option is to make a comment or raise a question at the bottom of one of your lists. For example, Gator's list, "Pantheon of Rock & Soul Nonperformers," ends with a "to be decided" list of more recent candidates -- an invitation for commenters to help evolve the list in new directions.

What should I do when I update a list?

The date/time in the header of a list is the date the list was created -- until you edit it. Once a list is updated, the original creation date is lost and replaced with the latest date/time the list was posted. These dates represent changes in the header, not the content. Since you typically want others to know that you have updated the content of a list, you should change the Title or description of your list to make that clear (e.g., "updated on date").

What happens to comments when I delete a list I've made?

When you delete a list you've made, any comments associated with that list will also automatically be deleted.

What's the best way to print lists?

Unlike the Timeline and CD Database, Lists lack a printer-friendly option. If you want to print only the text of your list and not the other stuff on the page, you should select what you want printed before you print. Printing a selection by itself can be done with Firefox and Internet Explorer but not with Safari or Chrome.
