What are Profiles?

Profiles are the pages representing each (registered) Cat's identity on the Alley. They provide an integrated point of reference for a lot of information in a consistent format, making it easy and convenient for each Cat to be as anonymous or as sociable as desired.

Who can see my Profile and what can they see?

Only Cats can see each other's Profiles, and other Cats can see only what you choose to show them about yourself (which will include links to all the lists and comments you post on the site). You decide what to show or hide in your Profile's "private" view.

What does a minimum Profile show?

A minimum Profile consists of your username (or screen name, if you chose one), a default Cat avatar, and the date you registered. Also, each Profile sidebar includes a link to "View All Cat Profiles" plus links to any lists or comments you've made.

What more can sociable Cats add to their Profiles?

In your Profile's private view you can change your avatar and password and add as much contact information or personal information as you want to be displayed in the public view. As a first step, you can choose to display rather than hide your email address. You can also let other Cats know how to contact you through other websites or services. For example, if you often use services like AIM to keep in touch with your friends while you do other things online, you could use the "contact info" part of your Profile to let other Cats know that. You are also prompted to reveal something about your music experiences or other personal information you'd like to share.

Where can I find more details?

The last step of registration places you in the private view of your empty Profile with an open panel of Instructions for how to develop it, if you so choose. Everything except your screen name can be changed as often as you like.

What is this site's policy on privacy?

Rock 'n Soul Alley collects no information about visitors except what we need to manage your experience on this site. If you register with us -- by providing your name and email address, which we verify -- we give you Cat status, with access to commenting and list making tools and your own Profile and unique internal ID number, to maintain your identity on the site as you participate in conversations and list making. Your name and email address remain private unless you choose to make them public. For more details, see our Privacy page.
